Good Christians

Love those flats, especially all the color! You're good to get me thinking about a Spring wardrobe, because I haven't thought twice about it, I guess I'm still waiting for  the weather to get cold! Ohhhh mild winter, how you fool my senses and my closet!

I've been talking to Lori about this new show for a while and I thought I'd clue you in. I know the odds of you sharing our excitement is slim, but you should at least be in the know...

Lori, my TV soulmate and I have been talking about a new show on ABC called "GCB" which premieres this Sunday at 10/9c. The show is based on a Good Christian Bitches, a novel by Kim Gatlin. You can imagine there was quite a stir about the title of the show, which originally matched the title of the book. After some expected outrage, ABC changed the title to "Good Christian Belles" and finally to "GCB". I'm not sure it matters, we all know what it really stands for! I think I'll save my outrage for 'Teen Mom'. This seems pretty harmless... but then again, I haven't been to Church in a while.

Aside from the hilarious trailers, here's why I plan on tuning in Sunday night:

1. I love all things produced by Darren Star (90210, Melrose Place, Sex and the City... ok, he had some flops too).

2. I ADORE Annie Potts. Obviously for Designing Women, but remember her character 'Iona' in Pretty in Pink? Hysterical. In GCB, she has dobermans named Tony and Romo.

3. Who's funnier than Kristin Chenoweth... as a mean girl.

I admit, this could be a total flop, I fear it could be too much like Desperate Housewives which I gave up for Real Housewives (also desperate) years ago. We'll just have to wait and see!

Relax, cleveage helps your cross hang straight,

Finding Flats.

Hi D!

Wow! Love the Q. Looks awesome and has a huge impact! AND you are officially decorating around a TV... one of the hardest things in the world! Bravo!

Yes, living near cousins is the best thing ever.  We are both so lucky for that!  My cousins and I have been trying to have a craft night for about 4 months now, so this is inspiration. Melis and Emily: we gotta get on it. They are making us look bad!

So with all this non-boot wearing weather happening right now, I am on the hunt for some affordable flats.   I thought I'd share what my eyes are looking at. Since we recently discussed this topic, but our challenge was to find flats OTHER THAN ballet flats, they're my focus right now (I happen to love the achievement of both femininity and comfort with a good ol' ballet!). Check out the COLOR, D!
Royal Blue, Aqua Lace Up, Color Block, Red Polka Dots

Some of these are decidedly summer-y, but I couldn't resist! Speaking of warm weather, I want these, too!

Have you thought about Spring clothes yet? Am I crazy?

Just Mod Podge It

How was your weekend? Jeff and I had an awesome weekend with my parents and brother and sister-in-law who came up to DC to celebrate my birthday. We ate great food, went to Ikea and took in some monuments. The perfect weekend! Then we snuggled in to watch the Oscars which I thought were just fine. It wasn't the best show I had ever seen, and I wish I had seen more of the nominated movies, but I was entertained and loved reading about JLo's nip slip on twitter... so funny. My favorite was Carson Kressley's tweet (of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy fame).

So a few weeks ago when I told you about the clocks we hung above our tv, I hinted that we would be hanging a large 'Q' on the wall too. But I never followed up! Here's the story of the Q...

I was at Miss Pixie's a few months ago and found a huge stack of giant letter "Q"s for $5 each. Since it's the first letter of our last name, I grabbed one for me and one for my cousin Lil' Q. I wasn't sure what we could do with them, but a 3 foot Q for $5 seemed like a can't miss opportunity.

So a few weeks ago, Lil' Q and our cousin Steph and I met up at Paper-Source to peruse their awesome selection of papers. We thought we would decoupage the Qs and hang them in our respective apartments. Unfortunately for Steph, there were no 'S's on sale at Miss Pixies, so she picked up a nice cardboard 'S' at Paper-Source.

After consulting the Paper-Source fairies, we purchased a few bottles of glossy Mod Podge as our adheasive of choice. This stuff is great. Dries clear and shiny. Just what we wanted.

We had a blast and got really sticky.

I really love it and am pleased with how my Q turned out. Only problem: It's really pink. I wanted a warm color on the cool wall and we have a ton of pink in our antique rug... but this put Jeff over the 'pink line' for our living room (totally fair), so we're thinking about hanging it in the office instead. For right now though, it keeps the clocks company on our lovely charcoal wall.

PS... Isn't living near cousins the best thing ever?

Get Ready...

For the biggest night in Hollywood!!!

Here are some tips for a getting ready for a great Oscar night, whether you are hosting a party of twenty or a party of one:
  • Analyze some of those funny graphs and charts that are everywhere now.
  • It's still kind of the start of the year and if you're like us, you're on a budget. Go ahead and buy yourself some $8 slippers from Target for maximum comfort during hours of TV viewing.
  • Browse this slide show of the best actresses through the years (and some really amateur photography if you ask us!)
  • Make this. Then eat it!
  • And then on Monday get ready for lots and lots of time here!! Waa-hoo!

Awesome cupcake by Aih on Flickr

Dearest Deweese... It's your BIRTHDAY! There are few happier days for a best friend than a best friend's birthday!  You are 30, following your dream, and looking mighty fine while doing it! To keep a tradition going, here are the things I wish for you this birthday...

  • Some wonderful QT with Jeff and Atty (DUH)
  • A warm birthday.  You famously dislike the cold, and this year it seems mother nature is on your side!
  • A gorgeous manicure.  You love getting your nails done and always have fun picking out the colors. Spring for the 10 minute massage.
  • A little random chuckle.
  •  Some incredible TV
  • And an equally incredible book:

And last but not least, when we are all together, I promise to take you out for one of these (or both):

How GOOD does that look in da middle of February?

Are you over ombré?

Hi Blythe!

It looks like you guys had such an awesome time! Was there any music making? A new album coming out soon?

Not only am I late posting today, I am so late to the game on the below hair trend. But I had to share before it goes totally out-of-style.

In my defense, I don't really follow hair trends. I always have some variation of poop-brown hair. I color it to conceal the grey, I'm still in my 20s afterall... for one more day! I usually have a 'stacked bob' or I'm 'growing it out'. Those are really the only variations.

But I started noticing an actual hair trend about a year ago. I've been seeing this color trend all over the ridiculous tv shows I watch. I first noticed it on 'Annie' on the new 90210 (yes, I just admitted that).

I've seen it on lots of other celebrities too, but never knew what it was called. I just found out the other day and did a little research, only to find out that this trend is all but over.

It's called ombré.

And as ridiculous as I thought it looked at first, it kinda grew on me, and now I really like it.

In jest, ombré is a gradual fade of one color to another. So on a lot of folks it just looks like they are growing out their blond highlights. Which sounds totally counterintuitive. But I think it works! What do you think? Is it so silly?

Have no fear, my friend. Ombre is for YOU, too!

And let's not forget who started it all!

Annual GOGH Weekend!

Dear Deweese!

Hope you had a great weekend! This weekend was the annual GOGH weekend... in a far away land where they actually have this white fluffy stuff that falls from the sky and collects on the ground.  They told me it was "snow" and said it used to come in the wintertime!

We had our annual meal of butternut squash risotto, but this year we also enjoyed roasted brussels sprouts and this AMAZING dessert, that I must share. Love me some Ina.

Here are some photos:

I need to thank my dear friend Anne. She not only found the recipes, but she also was the chef for these amazing meals! Thank you so much, Anne!

PHONE-A-FRIEND: Dukester's Miami Accessories

Today we have an extra special Phone-A-Friend from our very own Dukester! You know we're headed to Miami soon and Dukester had a great question...

Ok. It's time to start thinking about what to pack for Miami. I'm (unfortunately) not in the position to go splurge on new wardrobe items for the trip like the good ol' days of buying a dress (or two) for any and every occasion one was needed. And my gold glittered jeans from college are long gone (haha - just kidding!).

I'm thinking sprucing up what I already have with some new accessories is the way to go. But here in the suburbs of Boston, in my Middle School office, accessories are not necessarily on my mind....especially the accessory trends of the upcoming season.

Blythe and Deweese, please, help enlighten me with some must-have accessories for the upcoming season! Because on the continuum of Fashonista and Mom Jeans...I feel as though I'm creeping toward those high-waisted, tapered-ankle wonders!

First of all, DON'T GO NEAR THE MOM JEANS! You're not even close to that... and we won't allow it. You're too damn cute for that nonsense. DON'T GIVE IN!

Now, your accessories question is a good one. So we did a little research on the matter to see what the experts are sayin' about Spring 2012 resort wear. Here's what we've concluded, in three easy bits:

We scoured the web and these seem to be three things everyone is agreed on. Below are some examples at pretty awesome prices...

WHITE: We're thinking this can be pretty easy AND inexpensive. You probably already have white in your summer/beach wardrobe. This year, just layer it all together and you're set!

Rachel Zoe, Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney
(Ok, not THOSE prices, but you get the jest)

NEON: A hold-over from last year, this trend isn't going anywhere. Throw it on your nails or around your wrist. So easy to add to the aforementioned white oufits that you have coordinated!
Nail polish: $8, Bracelets: $14, Clutch: $60, Sunglasses: $12, Sandals: $29

TRIBAL: We're starting to wonder if 'Tribal' and 'Animal Print' are alternating trends. We just heard recently that animal print is OUT. But have no fear, you can get your exotic neutrals in the form of tribal wear. Whew!

Bracelet: $25, Triangular earrings: $20, Hat: $11, Belt: $13, Leaf drop earrings: $26, Tote: $39

Dukester, Hope you like what we picked, and hope it's helpful! We're counting the days until the Rack Attack unites in Miami!

Downton Wish Your Girlfriend Was Hot Like Mary?!

Source. Also, hope you got the Pussycat Dolls reference, since that's the version we sing in my house!

I love your post yesterday. That slideshow was the best! Doug! Nick is not a sweater vest wearer so I do not really have a frame of reference for this, but normally I think they are kinda Grandpa-ish. Not that all grandpa looks are bad!

So, to quote our dear friend Stephen, "how have we not posted on Downton Abbey yet?"

I've just started watching this awesome show and Deweese I know you are fan. Who else is watching?

What I love most about the show is the time period. It shows that in some moments of history, so much changed within a society in just two generations.  Remember when Lady Grantham asked: "What is a weekend?".  Really it seems no one is exactly sure about what is right and wrong in this moment in this society.

Also, I love the dresses so much. Someone give me an excuse to wear a dress like that someday, mmmkay?

PS: Now up for your daily dose of CUTE.  Here's our adorable Lil' Miss (so grown up with a bow!):

Also here is a French Bulldog that can D.J.:

And I'm out!

Rick or Ryan?

What a lovely Valentine's Day you had! Can't wait to hear how the recipes turned out! Jeff and I stayed home too and made an awesome meal. Well, Jeff made it and I chopped the garlic. We had steak au poivre, frites (cause we're too fancy for fries) and salad with this awesome dressing. SO delicious. We were trying to mimic our neighborhood fave Medium Rare.

Speaking of my personal chef... Jeff came to me with a puzzling question the other day: "If Rick Santorum is making the sweater vest "cool", does that mean I need to get rid of mine?"

Very good question.

I've never really had an opinion on sweater vests, but I do know that I think Jeff looks great in his slim suit with a sweater vest and tie.  So I did some digging, and I've decided I come down firmly on the side of pro-sweater vest. But here are my two new rules: No argyle and no personal logo (sorry Rick, it's just tacky).

And here's some advice from one of my new favorite magazines, GQ.

I like to think Jeff looks a little more like Ryan and less like Rick. Cause this is hot.

Here are some other famous vesters.

What do you think, Blythe and readers. Rock it or not?
