Not your Grandmother's Embroidery

Ok, so it's totally possible that your Grandmother has lovely taste when it comes to embroidery, but I have to admit that I thought it was a craft best left for nursing homes and Home Ec. Au contraire! My fave friend Natalie (Nat lives in Berkeley, CA which makes her inherently cool in my book) introduced me to the hipness and beauty of embroidery last fall and now I'm hooked. Well, I've yet to try it, but the craft store is on my list of errands this weekend so I can pick up the basic supplies.

Natalie suggests Prudent Baby's tutorial to get started, The Purl Bee for ideas, and Sublime Stitching and Urban Threads for great patterns. YUM! Thanks, Nat!

Best idea ever: Natalie made little personalized embroidered ornaments for all of her Christmas dinner guests last year. She said it was a total hit. I mean, how would you feel if you sat down to dinner with a little embroidered aqua telephone name card? Genius. That Natalie. She tells me there aren't any good pics of her ornaments, but I'm not giving up!

I think this might be my summer solution to knitting. Who wants to knit a scarf when it's 100 degrees outside!?

PS.... Nick is a STUD. For reals. I'm so impressed. I think maybe Jeff and I have some shopping in our future!

PPS... 1. This is funny: Unhappy Hipsters 2. More maps n' stuff. I can't get enough! 3. Go Bruins!
