Home Office Update

I'm all about the bling. I'm actually reading a book right now called  The Necklace by Cheryl Jarvis. I'm not that into it, but it's short, so I'll stick with it. Basically 13 women went in together to buy a diamond tennis necklace. They all share it, each getting it for a full month. Interesting concept, but one thing that struck me was how uncomfortable a lot of the women were wearing the necklace at first. Do you think you would be uncomfortable wearing something like this? It's not really my style, but I'm not gonna lie, I think I could get used to it!

I want to give you an office decor update. Goal: Creative Tree House.

I want to capitalize on the fact that our 5th floor apartment is high in the trees during the summer months, and this small room (8x10) has four huge windows. So I've thrown mature design to the wind and gone full-on whimsy. Ekkkkkkk! The walls are Jalepeno from Benjamin Moore (ie, Pottery Barn color fan deck circa 2008). The rug is a turquoise number from C+B.

1. I tried to re-purpose an Ikea frame as a cork board by adding some cork contact paper I already had. FAIL. As much as I wanted to avoid buying a cork board, the contact paper just isn't cutting it. Work in progress.

2. I bit the bullet and hung a gallery wall. I finally felt like I had enough to fill out the wall and I'm pretty pleased with the results. I definitely want to add more, but I decided that it was never going to be perfect. I needed to just do it already. Now as I sit here, I'm staring at the imperfections, but that's just something I'll have to save for the therapist.

3. I hung the clocks from C+B that I waited out and got for $7.95 each. I want to put little plaques under each of them for the times zones of our family as a joke since they are all in the same: Boston, MA (EST), Washington, DC (EST), Louisville, KY (EST, minus 5 min for southern time). Thoughts?

4. My dear mother-in-law is sending me her Stockholm Blad curtains from Ikea that she no longer needs. I think these will look great in what my Dad calls "the piss-green room".

5. I'd like to get a new desk. We're currently using the kitchen table I grew up eating at, the very same that you and Dukester and I had in all of our apartments together. I really like the West Elm Parsons Desk, simple, clean lines. But am open to other styles too.

6. We also need a bookcase, or a place where we can keep all of these back isues of Domino! Suggestions?

Below is where we stand so far...

Are you sick of the green already?

  1. This is just the inspiration I need. My home office has been on my "to do" list for longer than I'd like to acknowledge. I've made teeny tiny steps - but you've inspired me to dig in this weekend!
